The catalogue for the new permanent exhibition in the Buchenwald memorial. The Buchenwald concentration camp operated by the SS less than ten kilometres from the city centre of Weimars from 1937 to 1945 was one of the most important instruments of the Nazi regime for the racist reconstruction of Germany and later Europe. The inscription in the main gate - "Everyone's his own" - had the prisoners daily in front of their eyes. The cynical rededication of the original meaning of the saying legitimized exclusion and violence towards so-called community foreigners. The new permanent exhibition analyses what this meant for the over 250,000 people transported to Buchenwald. Based on the current state of research based on worldwide archive research, the accompanying volume also shows previously unknown historical documents and photos. In basic essays by well-known historians such as Frank Bajohr or Johannes Tuchel, as well as a contribution by the writer and former Buchenwald prisoner Ivan Ivanji, the contexts of Nazi crimes in the concentration camps are concisely discussed.
